Overcoming self-stigma

An anonymised story about a person who overcame stigma directed at themselves.

Sometimes the heaviest barrier is not other people but one’s own judgement of oneself. One participant lived for a long time feeling “less than others”.

Working with a peer consultant and talking in a self-help group helped him see that those beliefs grew out of outdated myths about the illness.

Today he values his life and supports new members of the group.
