From 1 August 2025 the SOMEC project — a model for HIV epidemic control — is being implemented in Samarkand region.
The SOMEC project started in Samarkand region on 1 August 2025 and runs until 31 December 2027.
The project aims at sustainable control of the HIV epidemic in the region through expanded prevention, testing, early treatment initiation and stigma reduction.
Stigma is a negative attitude built on mistaken beliefs. It can stop people from asking for help.
From May 2026 a project to improve youth tolerance through quizzes covers 15 districts of Tashkent region.
